It was only three months ago that we watched them at a moving swearing-in ceremony in Latrun. They then began an exhausting three-month training program. This week, at the end of this arduous process, they were to be awarded the purple beret and inducted into the Givati Brigade. H. and Y. are our two heroic soldiers who accomplished so much without the support of their biological families. Today, at the Yoav Fortress, we are the ones who came to celebrate this exciting occasion with them, taking our place just like all other parents, proud that our “children” made the grade. We then brought them home for Shabbat. We were all so proud, especially when one of them received his beret from the company commander, in recognition of his outstanding performance.
